41 Jumps to go...

EVE Online is a strange game. Sure its an MMOG and one can expect a certain amount of drudgery en route to the meat of the gameplay, but EVE is the only game that keeps you hooked even though you aren't really doing anything.
A perfect example of this came today when I searched for one of the epic mission arcs resulting in an autopilot destination 41 stargate jumps away, a monumental distance in EVE travel. Undertaking such a journey requires that the player either plots a manual course, which means clicking an appropriate stargate 41 times, or simply clicking autopilot and letting their ship do the flying. Of course being the sloth that I am, I chose to do the latter which meant monitoring my ships progress for about 30 minutes.
During this time I checked the market prices of the various systems, zoomed the camera up close to my ship (Stabber, Minmitar cruiser class) to appreciate the fine development time spent on its design, fiddled around with the largely underused jukebox and perused the built in web browser.
This is the beauty of EVE I suppose, and its something which doesn't always become apparent. Many dismiss the game for being over complicated and tedious, well I say that hacking up endless undead beast only to realise that levelling up didn't do shit because you died during the raid anyway is tedious. Give me the slow burn, rewarding feeling and majestic beauty of EVE over any other MMOG out there.
